Description:

Magdalene Limoncello Cake

St. Mary Magdalene, first witness of the resurrection and hailed in the East as "The Equal of the Apostles", was often hnonored on her feast day with the distinctive color of yellow.

In that tradition, we have created this golden almond pound cake, which we flavor with anise and lemon and orange peel and then soak with limoncello to remind us that she was a saint with substance as well as sweetness.

Ingredients: Flour, Sugar, Eggs, Butter, Safflower oil, Limoncello, Dried Lemon peel, Dried Orange peel, Anise seed, Confectioners sugar, Sour Cream, Baking powder, Slivered almonds, Star anise.

*This product is baked in a kitchen where nuts, nut products, gluten and dairy products are used.*

This is a 9 oz cake which yields three servings.

Shipping and Delivery: This product ships via USPS Priority Mail from our monastery in Wisconsin during the week before Easter Sunday.

Decorative Packaging: This product is elegantly packaged in a gold kraft gift box tied with fancy grosgrain ribbon and adorned with a metallic gold label. The cake is sealed in food-grade poly wrap and nestled in gold and white crinkle shred. We include a descriptive insert which details Benevolent Bakery, our mission and our monastery. For gift purchases, we will include a gift card or prayer card, upon request.

Your Purchase DOES Make a Difference - When you purchase a Benevolent Bakery Product as a gift or to adorn your holiday table, you are assisting those who help the most needy. With each delicious bite, you can feel good that you have helped put food on another's table, supported a child or family in need, given dignity to the homeless and poverty-stricken, put a smile on a child's face who may be challenged with a life-threatening illness and inspired those who selflessly assist these people through their time, talents and treasures.

Benevolent Bakery is proud to be in partnership with the following groups and we champion their efforts through our monetary support, creative projects and continuing collaboration:

Haley House - Offers collaborative living and working environments that:

  • BUILD communities and connections across the boundaries that divide us,
  • MODEL creative alternatives that confirm the intrinsic dignity and worth of each person,
  • and CHALLENGE the attitudes and structures that perpetuate suffering.

With a focus on reciprocal learning, they provide:

  • Skills training for the underemployed,
  • Volunteer experiences,
  • Housing for the homeless and working poor,
  • Economic development opportunities,
  • and Wholesome nourishment for body, mind and spirit

Inspiration Cafe - Located in Uptown on Chicago's north side, Inspiration Cafe provides restaurant-style meals, case management, support groups, life-skills training, financial assistance and other services to homeless men and women in a therapeutic community that promotes dignity and respect. Guests of the Cafe have access to the full range of Inspiration Corporation's programs, including employment training and career services, voice mail, and subsidized housing. Inspiration Cafe's goal is to help men and women overcome the causes of their homelessness and find stability by securing income and affordable housing. Inspiration Cafe was founded in 1989 by Lisa Nigro, a Chicago police officer who began searching for a personal response to the homelessness she encountered in Uptown. She began by loading up a red wagon with sandwiches and coffee to distribute to homeless individuals on the streets.

Storybook Farm : Hope on Horseback - Since opening in 2002, Storybook Farm, Inc. has welcomed hundreds of children from east central Alabama and west central Georgia to experience life on a farm.  Our animal staff consists of 7 horses, 7 ponies, 1 miniature horse, 9 dogs, 9 cats, 2 goats, 1 miniature Zebu cow, 1 rabbit, and schools of fish.  All these animals together with wonderful volunteers create an environment that teaches, loves and nurtures.
